OPT3001 is a sensor that measures the intensity of visible light. The spectral response of the sensor closely matches the photo-optical response of the human eye, providing significant suppression of the infrared component.
The OPT3001 sensor is a single-chip lux metering device that measures light intensity as perceived by the human eye. Its precise spectral response and significant IR suppression allow the OPT3001 to accurately measure light intensity regardless of the light source. The strong IR suppression also helps maintain high accuracy even when the sensor is placed behind dark glass, which is often required in industrial design for aesthetic reasons. This sensor is ideal for systems that create human perceptions based on light and serves as an excellent replacement for photodiodes, photoresistors, and other ambient light sensors with lower similarity to human eye response and lower IR suppression.
Measurements can be carried out in the range of 0.01 lux to 83k lux without the need for manual full-scale range selection, thanks to the built-in auto-full-scale setting function. This feature allows light measurements with an effective dynamic range of over 23 bits.
The digital operation is flexible for integration into systems. Measurements can be taken continuously or single-shot. The control and interrupt system offers autonomous operation, which allows the processor to sleep while the sensor looks for relevant activation events reported via the interrupt pin.
The low power consumption and low supply voltage of the OPT3001 sensor increase battery life in battery-powered systems.
