SAS to SATA Adapter

This adapter card allows SAS hard drives from servers to be connected to standard motherboard SATA interfaces, enabling regular computers to use SAS hard drives. It is no longer necessary to use expensive RAID cards; they can be used directly.

Important Notes:

  • Not recommended for use with USB hard drive enclosures or converter cables. There is no adaptation for USB host controllers, which may cause compatibility issues. Please consider carefully if you intend to use it with USB.
  • USB to SAS converter cables must be connected to an external DC power supply (12V/3A or higher) to function.
  • Because the SMART codes of SAS drives are different from those of SATA drives, the codes cannot be correctly mapped when the SAS drive protocol is converted to SATA. This issue currently has no solution. Therefore, after conversion, SMART information may be incomplete or not displayed, but this does not affect normal read/write operations. Buyers who require this feature should consider carefully.

SAS to SATA Adapter

SAS Hard Drive Introduction
SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) hard drives are high-performance storage devices, while the SATA (Serial ATA) interface is a common data transmission standard. Although they have different physical connection methods and protocols, an adapter can be used to connect a SAS hard drive to a SATA interface.

SAS hard drives cannot be recognized when connected directly to a standard SATA interface. To enable regular computers to use secure and stable SAS drives, this adapter "SATA to SAS Hard Drive Converter" is specifically designed for using SAS drives in ordinary computers.

Installation Steps:

  1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.

  2. Open the computer case and locate an available SATA 7PIN slot and SATA 15PIN power cable.

  3. Gently insert the adapter board into the SAS hard drive and ensure it is securely fixed in the drive bay.

  4. Insert the SATA cable and the SATA hard drive power cable into the adapter card. Connect the other end of the SATA data cable to the motherboard's SATA port.

  5. Close the computer case and reconnect the 220V power cord.

  6. Start the computer and check in the operating system whether the newly added SATA device is successfully recognized.

  • In some cases, updating the motherboard drivers or BIOS may be necessary to properly recognize the newly added hardware device.
  • SAS hard drive sectors include: 512/520/528/4K. Only 512/4K sectors are supported; 520/528 sector hard drives cannot be used.
  • Because SAS hard drives are used in servers, they include many security protection checks and encryption mechanisms. Boot recognition may be 10-20 seconds slower than standard SATA drives, which is normal. Please consider carefully if this is a concern.
  • Most SAS drives on the market are second-hand or refurbished, and many may already be faulty or have bad sectors. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that all drives will be recognized, and testing must be done by the user. Please consider carefully if this is a concern.
